The first thing I learned was how to make inanimate objects (trees) look like they are creatures... Here the trees are walking.

In other art, I started making trees without leaves or branches because they create chaos.

Another thing I learned is that making a brush stroke, even one over another does not create good grass. 

Another thing I did was to create several layers in the trees. You can see this as you get close to the edges of them. 

Across the art, I started trying to avoid making my strokes look like strokes.

In other art I also started avoiding up and down but kept depth. This allowed for the sky to be more interesting. You can see this here with the houses and stars.
