The purpose of this oil painting

When going to art school, we were taught that most black paints are composed of carbon. Therefore, when mixing black with colors or white, it tends to muddy up the paints.

So I asked myself, if I used lines, and made them black next to color and next to black... side by side in thin lines instead of mixing the black into the colors, how will that effect the painting? I had already shown that if the lines are close enough together, each separate color will effect the one next to it, creating the illusion of a new color.

These lines did not get painted close enough to make that happen. But if you stand back, the illusion will work. Also, the black will no longer muddy the other paints anymore.

The colors will still stay fresh looking. But there is a change.

What change was created?

I have a soft spot for flowers and plants. They brighten our days and can bring love to our moments.

They remind us of life and the reality we live in. This piece does just that.

I put just as much love into creating this painting as I hope you will get out of it.

This is one of the few line art pieces still for sale. The rest have sold.
